Astrocartography Lines & Their Meanings (Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars…)
Every planet on your map carries a different flavor of energy. Knowing what each line tends to bring is the fastest way to make sense of why some cities feel like a tailwind and others feel like wading upstream.
The planetary lines
- Sun line — visibility, vitality, recognition. You feel seen and step into your own light. Strong for leadership and reinvention.
- Moon line — belonging, comfort, emotional ease. Places that feel like home almost immediately. Nurturing, sometimes nostalgic.
- Venus line — love, beauty, pleasure, money through what you enjoy. Relationships soften and the world looks prettier.
- Mars line — drive, courage, sexuality, friction. Energizing and bold, but can run hot — great for ambition, harder for peace.
- Jupiter line — luck, growth, opportunity, optimism. Doors open and life feels expansive. Many people’s favorite line.
- Saturn line — discipline, weight, lessons, maturity. Not “bad,” but demanding; you grow up here, often the hard way.
- Mercury line — thinking, communication, learning, commerce. Sharp for writers, students, and dealmakers.
- Outer planets (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) — disruption, dreaminess, and deep transformation, respectively. Powerful but intense.
The four angles change the tone
The same planet feels different depending on which angle the line sits on. A Venus ASC line shows up in how you carry yourself; a Venus DSC line shows up in who you fall for. Read the planet for the what and the angle (ASC, MC, DSC, IC) for the where in your life it lands.
How close is close enough?
A line’s influence is strongest right on top of it and fades with distance — roughly within a few hundred miles, though astrologers differ. A city sitting near a line crossing (two planets at once) is where things get really interesting, for better or worse.
The cleanest way to see all of this for a place you care about is to run a reading and let the map do the math.

Questions
There’s no single best line — it depends what you want. Jupiter and Venus lines are the crowd favorites for opportunity and love, while a Saturn line, though demanding, is often where people do their most lasting growth.
A Venus line tends to soften life in that place — relationships come more easily, you feel more attractive and at ease, and pleasure and beauty are more available. It’s widely favored for romance and creative work.
